On June 2nd I had the honour to be re-elected as the chair of the Ontario Caucus at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. FCM does a lot of good work liaising with our federal counterparts to remind them what the needs and priorities of municipalities are. Along with the rest of the newly elected member of the caucus, we will be working even harder with a federal election around the corner. You can count on me to ensure that all federal parties give Ottawa its fair share of consideration for funding and support.
I was also very saddened to hear about the recent tornadoes on June 2nd in Orleans while I was away at the FCM conference. I decided to take the opportunity to turn this into a major discussion, along with the recent floods in our area, and we had a very good conversation going about how these major events are impacting municipalities. This will definitely be another key point we will be discussing with all our federal counterparts leading up to this fall’s election.
