OC Transpo kicks of 33rd annual food drive

Since 1984, the Annual OC Transpo/Loblaw Christmas Food Drive has helped touch the lives of many people in the Ottawa community – and this year will be no exception.

We are continuing our tradition of giving by launching the 33rd annual internal food drive today. Since its inception, this food drive has remained Ottawa’s single biggest food drive of the year – and its success is because of you, as well as generous community members, who have continued to make food and monetary donations, as well as volunteer time to help make a difference.

Over the last 33 years we’ve been able to donate over three million pounds of food and thousands of dollars to some of Ottawa’s most vulnerable residents.

Last year alone, the food drive delivered 108,496 food and non-perishable items and $32,315 in cash and food vouchers to the Ottawa Food Bank. That’s something to be proud of.

Let’s work together to make the 2017 food drive a success. Here’s how you can help!

Make a non-perishable food donation

Donate non-perishable food items – please don’t underestimate the impact even a few items can have. Every donation makes a difference.

Starting today, you will find donation boxes at several City of Ottawa facilities ready to be filled with canned and non-perishable items, including: rice, soup, tuna, pasta, diapers, baby food, baby formula, peanut butter, tomato sauce, and powdered milk.

Donation boxes are located at the following locations:

  • 1500 St-Laurent Boulevard
  • 875 Belfast Road
  • 899 Belfast Road
  • 925 Belfast
  • All OC Transpo garages
  • 370 Catherine Street
  • 101 Centrepointe Drive – Ben Franklin Place
  • 255 Centrum Boulevard
  • 100 Constellation Crescent
  • 110 Laurier Avenue – City Hall
  • 2339 Ogilvie Road (Gloucester Market Loblaws)
  • 2799 Swansea Crescent
  • 2020 Walkley Road
  • 1490 Youville Drive, Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Centre
  • 2940 Old Montreal Road, Cumberland Museum

Make a monetary donation

Did you know that for every dollar you donate, the Ottawa Food Bank – because of its wholesale purchasing power – can purchase about $5 worth of food? The Ottawa Food Bank’s Online Donation Option for the OC Transpo/Loblaw Christmas Food Drive makes it easy to make monetary donations.
