This week I had the opportunity to check out OC Transpo’s new light rail training facility.
The facility includes a train simulator that allows operators to try out scenarios on the new Confederation Line before it opens in 2018.
Once seated in the simulator, you man the controls as you pass by the same landmarks one would see while the train is on route.
Drivers are also put through a series of scenarios they might encounter while on the tracks, such as snow storms or heavy winds.
It allows drivers to practice pulling up to and leaving stops as construction crews work on the real ones.
This world-class simulator located at OC Transpo’s Belfast Yard will ensure our operators are ready to go once light rail comes online in 2018.
